Paul Austin

Paul N. Austin, PhD, CRNA is Professor Emeritus at Texas Wesleyan University. He was the coordinator of the master's to DNAP program from 2008 to 2023.

Dr. Austin received his nurse anesthesia training while attending the Navy Nurse Corps Anesthesia Program and George Washington University and a Master Degree in Nursing at the University of Buffalo. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a PhD in nursing. In the Air Force he held a number of clinical, education, and administrative positions, retiring as the Director of the Nurse Anesthesia Program at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Graduate School of Nursing. He was also the Chief Consultant to the USAF Surgeon General for Nurse Anesthesia. In 2005, he retired from the United States Air Force after 24 years of service.

Dr. Austin is an Education Director on the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program (COA) where he has chaired a number of committees and held all of the Executive Committee positions. His term on the COA concludes in October 2024. He is also a reviewer for the AANA J, a former Onsite Chair Reviewer for the COA and a former chair of the AANA Practice Committee (2013-2015). He is also a former member of the National Board of Certification and Recertification of Registered Nurse Anesthetists Recognition Panel: Equipment and Technology, 2014 to 2018. Dr. Austin is also a member of the editorial board of the journal Respiratory Care.

 

Dr. Austin is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology.
